District 3 Rally Recap

May 19-21, 2017

Wayne County Fairgrounds

Wooster, OH

The 37th District 3 Rally had 21 units, including eleven first-timers! Games were played indoors because of the weather (cool and breezy).

Friday night began with a Hot Dog Roast, hosted by Terry & Marty Hart, District 3 Reps from Michigan.  Jeff Nault and Ray Rowell, from their chapter, helped cook and serve.

Following the roast, Bob & Darlene Workinger, District 3 Representatives, hosted a series of “Anything Goes” games. These games, with 4 team members, are designed for folks to get acquainted with each other, and  it worked! The 1st Place team was: "Odd Couple's", consisting of Shelley Powers, Lisa Scensny, Ray Jagodzinski, and Terry Hart (MI Chapter #145 Wing Knutz). Shelley, Lisa, and Ray were all first-timers. Second place was "Number Tree" with Joe Putigna, Jeanne Daigle, Joan Carlson, and Dale Knoble. Third place was "Ramblin' Campers" with Pat Putigna, Ray Rowell, Marilyn Shirar, and Jeff Nault (Ray & Jeff are members of  MI #145).

Saturday morning breakfast was pancakes (prepared by Rick Wright) and sausage (prepared by Jeff Nault). Both are members of MI Chapter #145 Wing Knutz.

The morning game, Washer Toss (doubles), found stiff competition among the players. Playing to "21 exact" during elimination rounds proved to be too difficult, so scoring was downsized to 15/over. The final round, for 1st Place, was 21 exact. Even then, the game lasted 2.5 hours!

Bean Bag Toss (doubles) was played after lunch. As in Washer Toss, the final scoring was "21", with elimination rounds 15/over and moving along nicely.

Saturday night dinner was catered by M&M Kakes and Katering (Tekohsha, MI). It consisted of baked chicken, scalloped potatoes, mixed veggies, salad and 3 dressings, and dinner rolls. Dessert was served later.

Bob Workinger introduced the District 3 officers: Bob and Darlene Workinger (District 3 Representatives) and Terry & Marty Hart (Treasurer & Secretary).

Terry Hart gave special recognition to Bob & Darlene Workinger, who have attended all 37 District 3 Rallies!

Door prizes were then given out, followed by the game winners, and the 50/50 raffle.

A special cloverleaf, designed and made by Bob Workinger, was handed out to the first RV to register. This went to Ray & Lorraine Rowell (Clawson, MI).

Darlene Workinger told everyone all of the upcoming Coachmen events.

Dessert was then served dessert (a special cake recognizing Workinger's commitment of 37 years to District 3 rallies) and an assortment of ice cream and toppings.

After a break to digest the cake and ice cream, take door prizes back to RV's, and walk dogs, many returned for one final game. This is known at the Michigan District 3 Rally as "Round Robin". This consists of items of all sorts, hidden in brown paper bags that are picked from the center of the circle of players if one rolls a double with two dice. A few of the items were toilet paper, a bag of pistachios, silk flower arrangement, RV awning lights, and much more (some new, some gently used, some practical, and some silly).

Sunday morning there was a non-denominational service led by Bob & Darlene Workinger. The gathering opened with everyone singing "Take Time to be Holy", followed by Darlene reading a scripture and a variety of articles that gave everyone "food for thought". Linda Wright and Marty Hart assisted with a few readings. Bob gave a prayer for safe travels, good health for all, and God's blessings. Everyone sang verse 1 of "Blest Be the Tie that Binds", then gathered in a circle, held hands, and Bob prayed for health and safe travel for all.
